PRJUSD Launches Early College Program in Partnership with Cuesta College

Paso Robles Joint Unified School District is expanding opportunities for students to earn college credit while still in high school through the launch of a new Early College program beginning in Fall 2026.
Developed in partnership with Cuesta College, the program will provide students at Paso Robles High School and Independence High School with a structured pathway to complete college coursework alongside their high school diploma requirements.
While PRJUSD has long offered dual-enrollment opportunities, the Early College model takes a more systematic approach to dual enrollment that provides clear pathways for course selection to maximize credits upon graduation.
With careful planning, students may be able to complete up to two years of college coursework while still in high school, giving them a significant head start toward a certificate, associate degree, or bachelor's degree.
"Early College creates a clear pathway for students to accelerate their educational goals while receiving the support of their high school community," said Jennifer Loftus, PRJUSD Superintendent. "By expanding access to college coursework we're opening doors to future opportunities while reducing both the time and cost required to earn a college degree."
Students participating in the Early College program will take Cuesta College courses while enrolled at PRHS or IHS. To support student success, participants are required to enroll in a dedicated support period during the school day that provides structured time for completing college coursework, accessing assistance, and staying on track toward their academic goals. Students may also have the opportunity to take a third dual-enrollment course, expanding beyond the previous two-course limit.
In addition to earning transferable college credit, students gain experience with college-level expectations while benefiting from the support systems available through their high school.
District leaders say the program aligns with PRJUSD's ongoing commitment to preparing students for success after graduation by increasing access to college and career pathways.
A limited number of seats remain available for students interested in participating during the 2026-27 school year. Families seeking additional information are encouraged to contact their school counselor.
