Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA)
DANCE
Elementary students experience dance through units in the 4th-6th grade physical education program and instruction from classroom teachers and dance specialists in primary grades. Secondary schools offer comprehensive Dance electives for students in grades 7-12, with enrollment based on skill level. Our Junior High and High School dance programs are renowned for their exceptional annual live performances.
MEDIA ARTS
The Media Arts Program for grades 7-12 offers a comprehensive learning experience across various media genres. Grades 7-8 students explore introductory media arts, focusing on skills in photography and filmmaking through units like Lighting and Sound Labs. Grades 9-12 students can specialize in courses such as Media Production, Digital Photography, Yearbook, and Journalism, providing hands-on learning opportunities.
MUSIC
Elementary students in grades 2-4 learn general music with a specialist, while grades 5-6 can choose a band elective, learning basic skills on instruments like clarinet, flute, and trumpet. Junior High offers full-year band or strings electives to prepare students for High School music. Our High School features concert and marching bands with performance opportunities, a Regional Mexican Music course, and the award-winning Forte vocal music course.
THEATRE
Junior High students can start their Theatre Arts journey with Drama 1 and 2, covering acting, character development, and technical theatre. The High School Theatre Arts program offers a variety of courses for all skill levels, preparing students for on-stage and backstage roles in productions.
VISUAL ARTS
Students in grades TK-6 participate in the Art Docent program and receive additional instruction from Studios on the Park, showcasing their work to families and the community. The Junior High visual arts program focuses on creativity and technical skills in 2D mediums, culminating in an end-of-year gallery at Studios on the Park. High School offers a dynamic curriculum with electives like animation and 3D ceramics, preparing students for college and careers in the arts while providing opportunities to showcase their work in galleries.
