Culinary Arts Academy/Cooking with Chef Adam

Welcome to the Culinary Arts Academy!

The Culinary Arts Academy is a very unique and multi-productive facility. This building hosts both an academic and instructional kitchen with a fully functional dining area. Its design also facilitates a full production kitchen that produces and supplies sixteen other sites in the Paso Robles School District area.

What makes this learning and production kitchen so unique is what it offers the students. The students will have the opportunity to work in an actual production commissary kitchen as well as hands-on experience in a variety of food service operations; i.e. coffee shops, dinner houses, fast food, and banquets.

The academy's high school four-semester curriculum will instruct the students in sanitation, nutrition, and basic and advanced cooking. The Paso Robles High School also offers classes in horticulture and agriculture which directly ties in with the whole spectrum of how livestock is raised, slaughtered, butchered, and cured, and how foods are grown and prepared. This creates a unique and viable opportunity for every Paso Robles student to have access to such a broad spectrum of related education.

We offer a summer program for middle school students!

In addition to the many curriculum programs being offered at the academy, the facility is also available for limited catering needs. We have the ability to support catering needs for business, organization, and family functions with a variety of menus to choose from.

Growing up in rainy Portland, Oregon, Chef Adam White used that indoor time to discover cooking. Wrestling in high school and an outdoor lifestyle naturally led Adam to food that was both healthy and fulfilling. That passion for health and flavor guided Adam in his culinary career, choosing to work at restaurants and institutions following the same philosophy.

Chef White attended Oregon State University and has over 25 years in the hospitality industry. In Oregon, worked for Big River Restaurant in Corvallis, The Black Rabbit restaurant in Troutdale, and the Rheinlander in Portland, where managed operations and refined his technique. Moving to the healthcare sector gave Chef White room to blend his love of food with the nutritional big picture. At a large hospital in Portland, Oregon, and later as Executive Chef on the Central Coast of California, community well-being and healthcare remained central.

Adam has been victorious two years running at Templeton’s Wellness Kitchen “Top Chef” competition. He has been featured on KSBY’s “Foodie Friday,” and in several local publications. Adam and his wife, Katie, have two young daughters and love the Central Coast life: camping, biking, finding new restaurants, and the occasional family wrestling match.
