Silverstein is most known for his written works of children literature. He was also a cartoonist, a musician and composer. He was enlisted in the U.S. army serving in Korea and Japan as well.


Silverstein composed many songs. Including, "A Boy Named Sue," released by Johnny Cash. And also Loretta Lynn's, "One's on the Way."


His book, The Giving Tree, is the most discussed children's books of all time. His cartoons were puiblished in the Stars & Stripes magazine among others later on.


In his later years he produced his most memorable, Where the Sidewalk Ends and A Light in the Attic.


Silverstein lived from 1930-1999.
