March 2020: COVID 19 Health Update
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,
The nurses employeed by Paso Robles Joint Unified School District are working remotely and are available to help with your healthcare needs. While we shelter at home to support the safety of our community we are available by phone or email.
It is essential that our students and families with preexisting health needs stay home to avoid contact with infected members of the community. It is important to have a plan for accessing healthcare if you or a loved one becomes ill. In these uncertain times, access to healthcare may become difficult. We can help connect you with family resources, healthcare providers and medical supplies.
Each of us miss the normalicy of life, we miss our studnets and school families. Please feel free to call or email your site nurse with any questions, concerns or health updates.

October 2019: Vision Screening
During the month of September the local Lion's Club provided vision screening for students at all of our Elmentary Schools. Nearly 2,000 students were screened by an optometrist in the Lio's Club mobile trailer. 200 students were referred for further testing. The nursing team helps support families who cannot afford treatment an connect the students with local resources. We are thankful for the support and docation of hours from Dr. Major, Dr. Rishko, Dr. Kudija and Dr. Kopper.
A student at Kermit King Elementary presented Dr. Major with a hard drawn diagram of the eye structure.

The role of the School Nurse is to provide medical leadership in the school community to oversee school health policies and programs. The school nurse serves in a pivotal role to provide expertise on health services and promotion of health education.
Nursing support staff working at the site level are Licensed Vocational Nurses. The district currently employees eight LVNs who are each assigned to one or two school sites. The role of the site nurse is to manage immediate medical emergencies, promote health among students on a daily basis, assist with medication administration (injections), and providing specialized nursing procedures.
