Hello Families and Friends of Lewis MS,

My name is Mike Vogenthaler, and I am the new Principal at Lewis MS. I am very excited to join your school community, and already feel so welcomed in the short time that I have been here. I want to share with you a little about myself, both personally and professionally.

I have three grown children in their twenties and two young daughters, all of whom I adore. I grew up in Chicago, am a product of the Chicago Public School System, earned bachelor of science degrees in Human Resource Management and Marketing from DePaul University (Chicago, IL), and my Masters Degree in School Leadership and Administration from Chapman University (Orange, CA). Prior to relocating to San Luis Obispo, I’ve lived in the desert of Northern LA County and the mountains of Tehachapi. I look forward to life on the Central Coast, and enjoying all the activities available in this special place.

This is my thirtieth year as an educator. I taught junior high school math for seventeen years, and love this age group of kiddos! I was an assistant principal at a K-8 school for two years, an elementary principal at a TK-3 school for two years, and a high school principal for four years. I spent the last four years as the Director of College and Career Initiatives at the Kern County Superintendent of Schools. During this time I was responsible for developing college credit courses and community college partnerships, monitoring and supporting high quality career technical education pathways, overseeing the designated subjects teacher credentialing program, and creating work-based learning experiences for junior and senior high school students through local business and industry partnerships for Kern Counties 35 high schools and 14 alternative-ed sites.

I am looking forward to assimilating into your school community, serving you and your children in developing the best version of themselves, and strengthening the instructional program to better prepare all students for college and career. Returning to this new school year will be like no other. Together we will make a difference!
