Welcome to the Culinary Arts Academy!

  • The Culinary Arts Academy  is a very unique and multi-productive facility. This building hosts both an academic and instructional kitchen with a fully functional dining area. Its design also facilitates a full production kitchen that produces and supplies sixteen other sites in the Paso Robles School District area.

What makes this learning and production kitchen so unique is what it offers the students. The students will have the opportunity to work in an actual production commissary kitchen as well as hands-on experience in a variety of food service operations; i.e. coffee shop, dinner house, fast food, and banquets.

The academy's high school four semester curriculum will instruct the students in sanitation, nutrition, basic and advanced cooking. The Paso Robles High School also offers classes in horticulture and agriculture which directly ties in with the whole spectrum of how livestock is raised, slaughtered, butchered and cured, and how foods are grown and prepared. This creates a unique and viable opportunity for every Paso Robles student to have access to such a broad spectrum of related education.

We offer a summer program for both adult and highschool students!

In addition to the many curriculum programs being offered at the academy, the facility is also available for limited catering needs. We have the ability to support catering needs for business, organization and family functions with a variety of menus to choose from under the direction of Gregg Wangard, the Paso Robles Food Service Director, and Adam White, the Executive Chef / Culinary Arts Specialist.

Come join us at Cafe 61!

  • Our Culinary Arts Program was established in 1998 to fulfill the rapid growth and demands of the food service industry. Here at the PRJUSD Culinary Arts Academy, our program trains and prepares junior and senior high school students for entry into this exciting career.

What makes this learning and production education unique is that it offers students an opportunity to work and operate in an actual restaurant, which prepares them for an easy transition into actual employment in area restaurants. This experience increases their value to their future employers as well as they learn a wide variety of skills from table service, catering, breakfast, lunch, dinner, menu production, and a wide variety of baking and costing procedures.

This vocational course was designed in conjunction with what is actually required by chefs and restaurateurs for employment in their businesses.  Your patronage at Cafe 61 becomes an important part of the students' education and future.  Show your support by sampling the students' culinary talents at a very reasonable price.

Cafe 61 at the PRJUSD Culinary Arts Academy is open to the public for breakfast and lunch.
