Special Education Transportation

Special needs students have unique requirements that are addressed by the trained staff here in the Transportation Department. If you have a special needs child who requires transportation, please DO NOT call transportation to establish a pick-up. We must first attend an IEP with the District Office to best assess your childs needs. Please contact the Paso Robles Public Schools District Office at (805) 238-2222 to schedule an IEP.

If your special needs child is already a registered rider with the transportation department, you may call with your questions at (805) 237-3378, or e-mail the transportation supervisor at :

"AT WILL" Rider Information

We at the Paso Robles School District Support Services are committed to providing the maximum service for your student. It is because of this commitment that we offer transportation as capacity permits to students inside the walking radius limits set by the Board of Trustees.

This means that we will entertain requests from parents who reside within the 1 mile/3 mile walking radius to request transportation for their student. When we make such an accommodation, the student is identified as an "At Will" rider. However, this extra service does involve some special considerations:

1. The requests are on a first come, first served basis each year. If the route reaches capacity and ridership has to be reduced to accommodate those outside the walking radius, then those students within the radius will be "bumped" from the list in reverse order of acceptance.

2. If a student lives within the walking radius and becomes a discipline problem, that student will be removed from the bus list and will not be allowed to ride for the remaining part of the school year.

3. When filling out the bus registration form, the blank labeled "Inside walking radius" must be marked "Yes". Any attempt to misrepresent this information will result in immediate removal from the bus list.

4. You must apply at the beginning of each new school year. A seat on this year's bus does not guarantee a seat next year. Changing routes and increasing student populations make reduced capacity a very real probability.

This is a service to the community that we are proud to be able to offer, but remember, this is a service we offer while we have capacity and it does not impact the operation of school transportation. It is important to remember that your student can be "bumped" if the need for more capacity arises.

If you would like to register your child as an At Will rider, please stop by out offices at 2910 Union Road and we will supply you with the proper paperwork. If you want further information, please contact us at (805) 237-3378.

District Driver Safety Program

We in the Transportation Department are concerned about the safety of all students being transported in district vehicles, whether they are in buses or district small vehicles, such as vans. In light of this fact, we have established a brief driver verification course for any person who wishes to drive a district vehicle. This includes parent volunteers driving students on athletic events or field trips and district employees wishing to use district vehicles for official district functions, such as educational conferences, meetings, etc. The class is designed to be a review of driving safety and a familiarization with the nuances of driving larger passenger vehicles, such as 10 passenger vans.

Class attendees must possess a valid California Drivers License, and have it with them at the class. For more information and future class dates, contact the Transportation Department at (805) 237-3378 or e-mail us.

Bus Driver Training Classes

Looking for a fun and rewarding job opportunity? We need bus drivers! Even as a substitute bus driver, you will have consistent work and possess a drivers license that will allow you to drive not only school buses, but many other types of heavy transportation vehicles.

It isn't for everyone, though! It's hard work earning your license. And once you have it, you have to stay proficient in your driving. Plus, you have to have excellent pupil management skills. However, if you feel like this challenge is for you, contact us here at the Transportation Department for information on how to get started. You can call us at (805) 237-3378, or e-mail us.
