This past Saturday, the Paso Robles FFA Welding Team competed at the 2017 Chico State/ Butte College FFA Field Day. The welding contest was hosted by Butte College on the main campus in Oroville. Over twenty teams were present at the event from around California with over eighty-five competitors. The competitions consisted of Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Oxy-Acetylene Welding, Oxy-Fuel Cutting, a fifty question written exam, a 25 question welding inspection exam, and a job application with mathematics questions. Students also had to prepare and bring their portfolios for grading.
Paso Robles took first place as a team; with Iver Hansen placing first and Zac Alves fifth as individuals. Additional team members included Shane Terra and Daniel Oliver. This now marks our sixth consecutive win for FFA welding this season. Our next compeition will be April 8th, here at PRHS when we host teams from our South Coast FFA Region and Fresno area for a dynamic contest. Anyone interested in stopping by to see what the contests look like or to check our students out in action are more than welcome to attend.
Thank you to all who support this program and the students in their efforts,
