Our knowledge gained by learning about microcontrollers played a key role in our brainstorm of ideas for the product, which ranged from LED pens to circular light shows. In the end we chose a simple pc board with eight LED’s flashing in a circular pattern that did not require the use of costly microcontrollers or microprocessors. This brought our cost down to a reasonable level for the manufacturers and the consumers alike. We instead used a 555 timer coupled with a 74HC164 shift register to produce the desired effect with maximum cost efficiency. We intend to market Project_1 to fellow Endeavour classes and electronics classes on our campus as well as to any others who are interested in supporting our student-designed product.
