Functional description and field setup
The X-BeePro by Maxstream is a communication device used to transmit data or communication with two devices. It uses a radio transmission to communicate the data back and forth. The units comprise of two PC boards, one to hook up to the desired device and the other to hook up to a computer via USB. The first board uses a serial D-sub 9 pin cable to connect the XBEE to the device. To use the XBEE, a null modem male-to-male adapter must be used between the desired device and the XBEE. The communication system comes with its own software called X-CTU which is a terminal to communicate between the computer and the desired device. To test the device, a “LoopBack” serial adapter may be used and tested with the “Test” tab in X-CTU.
To install X-CTU:
Turn on computer
Connect USB to X-Bee
Insert install_file CD
If Windows does not detect the device:
4a. Open “Control Panel”
4b. Open “Add New Hardware”
4c. Click on option “Install the software automatically”
[Note: the hardware should be installed]
5. Open X-CTU
IN “PC SETTINGS” TAB:
5Ia. Select “Maxstream PKG-U(COM???)”
5Ib. Set “Baud Rate” to 19200
5Ic. Set “Flow Control” to Xon/Xoff
IN “MODEM CONFIGURATION” TAB:
5IIa. Click on “Read”
5IIb. Select “XBEE-PRO” in Modem drop-select box
5IIc. Select “XBEEPRO 802.15.4” in Function Set drop-select box
5IId. Select “Version 1083”
5IIe. Select “Always update firmware” checkbox
6. GO TO “TERMINAL” TAB
7. Type “RE” to communicate with QNET board
IF QNET IS NOT RESPONDING THEN:
8. Go back to “MODEM CONFIGURATION” TAB
9. Click “Read”
10. Change baud rate “BD” to 19200
11. Click “Write”
12. Go back to instruction 6
