The students of Daniel E. Lewis Middle School working in collaboration with One Cool Earth, a non-profit environmental organization, received a $1000 grant from the Youth Board of the United Way in San Luis Obispo.

The grant will fund projects involving students, faculty and staff of the Paso Robles School District, adult volunteers and local community organizations.  The focus of these projects is water conservation and sustainable, organic gardening through developing rain water catchment and retention systems, installing drought tolerant landscaping, and establishing a perennial garden with fruit trees using drip irrigation.

Thanks to the generosity of the United Way, sixth, seventh and eighth grade students are provided with the opportunity to have a direct, positive impact on their school campus while helping to address the drought crisis.
