Answers
1)  Q I’ve forgotten my password. What do I do now?
A

Call helpdesk and request a password reset. Your new password will be reset, and you will be asked to change to a new password after you log in.

2)  Q How do I change my Novell password?
A
On your keyboard, simultaneously press Ctrl+Alt+Delete. Click Change Password. Here you need to enter your old password and new password twice. This password will automatically prompt you to change it every 180 days.
3)  Q How do I change my GroupWise password?
A
Tools -> Options -> Security -> Enter the old password -> Enter the new password -> Enter the new password again (This can not be done from the web version of GroupWise. It must be done from the desktop
4)  Q My Printer is not working.
A
Check connections. Turn the printer off and on again. Turn the computer off and on again. If none of these steps works, please submit a work order.
5)  Q My internet is not working.
A
Check connections in the back of the computer, particularly the network connection. If you do not see a blinking light, there is a problem with the connection. If there is a blinking light and the internet doesn’t work after restarting your computer, there is a problem with the computer. In either case, please submit a work order.
6)  Q I can’t login through Novell
A
Check connections. Make sure to read the error that is given when trying to login. “No LDAP server” means there is a problem with your connection. “The system could not log you into the network” means that you have typed your password incorrectly (or may need your password reset). “LDAP Contextless Login: User not found” means you have typed your login name incorrectly (or account has not been set up properly).
7)  Q I get an “ACCESS DENIED” page when I go to the internet.
A
Make sure you login into Novell when you turn on your workstation. The Access Denied page should also have a login. Use your Novell login here and you will be granted temporary internet access.
8)  Q My computer will not boot. Message reads "please remove all removable media and reboot"
A
Pull out all DVDs. CDs, USB sticks and floppy disks and reboot the computer. If these steps do not work, please submit a work order.
9)  Q My computer will not boot. Message reads “Windows system files are corrupt” or mentions “C:\Windows\hal.dll”
A

This will require direct intervention of a technician. Please submit a work order and if this is urgent, call the helpdesk.

10)  Q After putting in my Novell login, I get another login with “autolog” and no password.
A
Put in the password field “pass” (no quotes) and press enter. Please submit a work order if this issue persists.
11)  Q After putting in my Novell login, I get a ZENWorks login and my password doesn’t work.

12)  Q I turn off my computer, but it turns itself back on.
A
This is a side affect of our power management software. This machine has been chosen as a network proxy for managing other workstations at this site. It is okay to leave this computer on if it turns itself back on.
13)  Q Keyboard and/or Mouse don’t work.
A
Check the connections on the computer. Reseat the connections and restart the machine before trying again. (Keyboard and mouse are recognized at boot up and will not work if plugged in after computer is already on)
14)  Q My screen, text and icons are too small for me to read. How do I change that?
A
Right click you desktop and select properties from the menu. Click the last tab "Settings", here you can see a slider that says "Screen resolution". Pull the slider to the LEFT to INCREASE the icons and text size.
15)  Q My computer won’t turn on.
A
Check the power plug in the back of the machine. You may need to unplug the computer (for at least 15 seconds) and plug it back in. Make sure your surge protector is turned on and plugged into the wall. If your surge protector is plugged into another surge protector (you’ve broken a few fire codes), make sure all surge protectors in the chain are turned on.
16)  Q My computer is on, but my monitor is not displaying anything.
A
Make sure the monitor is turned on. Check the power and video cable connection going from the monitor to power and monitor to computer. If the monitor is on and connected properly yet you are still unable to see anything, your computer is likely not booting properly. Power the computer off (hold the power button for 6+ seconds, or unplug and plug back in) and power on again. If problem persists, please submit a work order.
17)  Q How do I save/backup files to the network?
A
After logging into a machine, users have access to their network H drive. To save files here, go to My Computer and then look for Users on ( H: ). You might have to scroll down to see all your network drives. After opening the H: drive, you will need to open your personal folder to save files. The folder will have the same name as you login (first initial and last name).
18)  Q How do I make the computer store my canon copier code so it doesn't annoy me every time I print?
A
Printers and Faxes> right click desired printer> properties> Device Settings tab>
Make sure the "Job Accounting" AND "Allow Password Setting" boxes are checked, then click the "Settings" button directly to the right. Some canon copiers will have a check box that states "allow password setting" this will need to be checked. Type your ID into the field provided. Make sure the password field is blank and that the "Confirm ID/Password when Printing" IS NOT CHECKED. Select "OK" on both open screens and you should be all set.
